Mission Peak And Vicinity

Map     Satellite

This area comprises the highlands and peaks running southeasterly from Mission Peak to Monument Peak and including Mount Allison. Most of the area is underlain by upper Miocene marine sedimentary rocks. There are a number of intermittent streams that rise here.

Vegetation is primarily grassland, with a number of exotics, though there are scattered patches of mixed evergreen forest, particularly on the north-facing slopes.

Animal life is typical of the region. This area and that immediately to the south (see Mission Ridge) offer particularly good sites to observe migratory birds during the season.

Integrity: Much of the area is grazed and there are a few buildings and ranch roads. It has been proposed as a Regional Park.

Use: Private
