Concord Naval Weapons Station Tule Elk Preserve
Map Satellite State Tule Preserve in Tupman and 31 from the Owens Valley, were introduced into this area as a part of the State program to increase the tule elk population. The introduction is apparently successful, as in 1982 there were 11 calves.Vegetation in the area is virtually exotic grass, though there are a few valley oak, Quercus lobata.
An intermittent creek flows through a portion of the preserve where willow, Salix spp., and mature cotton-woods, Populus fremontii, are present.
Integrity: The area is fenced and is being managed for the elk. Cattle grazing is permitted from November to May. Water troughs are being constructed.
Use: Present.
