Point Edith Ecological Reserve

Map     Satellite

Virtually all of this reserve is marsh. Along the waterfront there is a fringing salt marsh which, inland, gives way to a brackish, then freshwater marsh.

Pickleweed, Salicornia sp., and salt grass, Distichlis spicata, are present, but the dominants are bulrush, Scirpus acutus, and cattail, Typha latifolia.

A number of waterfowl utilize the marsh, particularly during the migratory season. Among them are pintail, Anas acuta, widgeon, Anas americana, and cinnamon teal, Anas cyanoptera.

There are various channels in the marsh.

See also Concord Naval Weapons Station Marsh.

Integrity: Some levees as well as channels are present; however, most of the marsh is virtually undisturbed.

Use: Research, educational, observational.
