>Map >Satellite Located to the southeast of Crescent City, this stand of mature Sitka spruce, Picea sitchensis, is representative of the spruce-dominated California coastal strand forests. The understory includes salmon berry, Rubus spectabilis, California huckleberry, Vaccinium ovatum, and sword fern, Polystichum munitum.
The forest is on the low-lying, swampy-in-places, coastal plain fronted by dunes.
Integrity: Though presently intact, there are housing developments near the area.
