Damnation Creek

>Map     >Satellite

This is an excellent example of a slope redwood forest grading into a Sitka spruce forest and north coastal scrub near the ocean. The trail makes a 275-meter (900-foot) elevational transect through undisturbed vegetation. In addition to the redwood, Sequoia sempervirens, and Sitka spruce, Picea sitchensis, Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, California rose bay, Rhododendron macrophyllum, cow parsnip, Heracleum lanatum, coyote bush, Baccharis pilularis, and the monkey flower, Mimulus aurantiacus, are conspicuous by their abundance.

Included in this area is the watershed of Damnation Creek. Underlying rock is of the Franciscan formation.

Integrity: Undisturbed, save for a trail to the creek mouth and several dirt roads.

Use: Educational, research, observational, light recreational.
