>Map >Satellite Lightly forested by the Jeffrey pine, Pinus jeffreyi, this is a small swampy area on serpentine soil. The understory is a dense thicket of Western azalea, Rhododendron occidentale. The floor of the area is carpeted by a unique and rare flora. Among the more prominent are Darlingtonia californica and Cypripedium californicum. These latter two species are protected by the Endangered Species Act. Integrity: A small housing development for Forest Service personnel is located immediately above this area. Pumping for water for these houses is causing desiccation of this unique habitat. Use: Research, educational, observational. December 1975
