>Map >Satellite An unusual mixture of conifers, including redwood, Sequoia sempervirens, Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, and sugar pine, Pinus lambertiana, are found on French Hill. The redwoods are in one of the disjunct stands east of their general range in Del Norte County. Within or near the forest on French Hill there are six rare plants, Castilleja hispida ssp. brevilobata, Lilium pardalinum ssp. vollmeri, Monardella purpurea, Sanicula peckiana, Schoenoliron bracteosum (?) [probably Hastingsia alba], and Tauschia glauca. Integrity: There is a low-quality road through the stand. Though not formally classified, it is recognized as a special management unit on the Gasquet District Management Plan. Use: Educational, research, observational. Ref: Martin, Don, 1972.
