Stony Creek Bog

>Map     >Satellite

Located in this scenic area is a particularly attractive bog with an excellent stand of the California pitcher plant, Darlingtonia californica.

Other noteworthy bog plants include the butterwort, Pinguicula vulgaris, which here is near the southern extension of its range, the lady slipper orchid, Cypripedium californicum, the sundew, Drosera rotundifolia, and the yellow inside-out flower, Vancouveria chrysantha.

The surrounding forest includes Port Orford cedar, Cupressus lawsoniana, Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Jeffrey pine, Pinus jeffreyi, western white pine, Pinus monticola, and sugar pine, Pinus lambertiana.

Integrity: The bog and the surrounding area which is included as a buffer zone are privately owned. The owners are aware of its botanical importance and intend to protect it. There is a foot trail in the area and camping has created some disturbance. The area is entirely surrounded by the Six Rivers National Forest.

Use: Private
