>Map >Satellite North of the adjacent Preston Peak, this area supports several forest types. Douglas fir - white fir forests, with Pseudotsuga menziesii and Abies concolor dominant, grade into a noble fir, Abies procera, forest above the 1,500-meter (5,000-foot) level. There is a well-developed, mature Port Orford cedar, Cupressus lawsoniana, stand as well as an excellent Brewer's spruce, Picea breweriana, stand. Jeffrey and Western white pines, Pinus jeffreyi and Pinus monticola, occur here together with a knobcone pine, Pinus attenuata, forest. There is also some chaparral. Animal life is typical of the region. Underlying rocks include both Mesozoic ultrabasics and granitics. Integrity: There has been some logging on the lower elevations. Use: Research, educational, observational. Ref: Clark, E. D., 1972. A Floristic and Ecological Survey of the Preston Peak and Devil's Punch Bowl Area, Siskiyou County, Calif.
