>Map >Satellite Bisected by High Prairie Creek, this research area supports a "superlative" stand of redwoods, Sequoia sempervirens. Over 80 percent of the area is in the redwood forest, which contains a few Douglas firs, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Western hemlock, Tsuga heterophylla, Port Orford cedar, Cupressus lawsoniana, and Sitka spruce, Picea sitchensis. Along the creek banks and on the alluvial plain there is a riparian association consisting primarily of red alder, Alnus rubra, and big-leaf maple, Acer macrophyllum. Integrity: The area is virtually pristine. Use: Research, educational. July 1982
