>Map >Satellite This area includes a short stretch of the San Joaquin River, various artificial ponds and agricultural land. Most of the area is grassland, but along the river and ponds there is a riparian association with cottonwood, Populus fremontii, willow, Salix sp., white alder, Alnus rhombifolia, and sycamore, Platanus racemosa. There are also a number of valley oaks, Quercus lobata, in the grasslands. Several species of birds nest in the area, including blue heron, Ardea herodias, black-crowned night heron, Nycticorax nycticorax, green heron, Butorides virescens, and wood duck, Aix sponsa. Several species of migratory waterfowl utilize the area for wintering or resting. Integrity: The ponds are artificial and there is a quarrying operation. The grasslands are grazed.
