>Map >Satellite Near the summit of Ciervo Mountain there are active sand dunes above the 760-meter (2,500-foot) level. (See also Ciervo Hills Fossil Dunes.) These dunes are moving southeasterly and appear to be replenished by sand from the sandstone cappings of the hills to the northwest. The vegetation is sparse, with Ephedra californica and Juniperus californica dominant. Integrity: The dunes are virtually undisturbed. Use: Research, educational, observational. Some private.
