Converse Basin Grove

>Map     >Satellite

Once one of the largest of the sequoia, Sequoiadendron giganteum, groves, the area has been extensively logged and practically all of the large trees have been cut. Following the logging, severe fires eliminated virtually all of the sequoia. However, with adequate protection in the past few decades, young sequoias are re-populating portions of the area.

The third largest sequoia, the Boole Tree, with a height of 81.9 meters (268.8 feet) and with a basal diameter of 9.75 meters (32 feet), which exceeds any of the other Sequoiadendrons, is located on the slopes of the area. Ironically, it is named after the man who supervised the cutting of the grove.

The Converse Mountain (Boole Tree) and Cabin Creek groves are included in this area.

See Abbot Creek Grove and Agnew Grove.
