>Map >Satellite Donut Rock is a conspicuous landmark in the area. The rock, formed of Upper Cretaceous marine sedimentaries, primarily sandstone, has been sculpted by the wind to form a distinctive hollowed arch on a sandstone ridge that drops away directly west and south of the rock. The inside diameter is approximately 2 meters (8 feet). Vegetation in the area is predominantly coastal sage scrub with black sage, Salvia mellifera, and Eriogonum sp. Integrity: The area is virtually undisturbed, though there is a pack trail. Use: Research, educational, observational, present. September 1977
