Kings River Green Belt Recreation Area

>Map     >Satellite

Approximately 5 kilometers (3 miles) of the Kings River, the adjacent bottom lands and banks or bluffs, and several small lakes are included in this area.

Along the river a riparian association is found, with sycamore, Platanus racemosa, white alder, Alnus rhombifolia, Oregon ash, Fraxinus latifolia, and some willow, Salix sp. On the higher ground, valley oak, Quercus lobata, is the dominant.

Animal life is typical and relatively abundant in portions of the area. Of note is the occasional appearance of bald eagles, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, in the area.

Lying primarily on a Quaternary river fan, the area has good exposures of braided stream channels on the flood plain. At Piedra there is an exposure of serpentine.

Integrity: Portions of the area have been converted to a park, with grass and other facilities. Within the area there are roads, a quarry, etc. However, much of the vegetation is in fair to good condition.

Use: Present. Some private.
