>Map >Satellite On the eastern slope of Anticline Ridge, at the edge of the Coalinga Oil Field, is a good exposure of the Etchegoin Formation. This formation is of middle and lower Pliocene age and consists of claystones and sandstones laid down in deltaic and shallow marine conditions. The area is rich in fossils, particularly marine invertebrates, with clams the most common, but there are numerous plant fossils. There are also fossil burrows of marine borers. Vegetation consists of highly disturbed grassland. Integrity: Several highways and roads run through the area and there are producing oil wells. Use: Private January 1980
