>Map >Satellite Spanish Lake lies atop a narrow mountain ridge a few kilometers east of the San Benito Mountain Natural Area and is a vernal pool on serpentine and sandstone outcrops. There are no streams feeding or emptying the pool. Vegetation in the area includes a yellow pine forest, foothill woodland and chaparral. Lewisia rediviva is found here in some abundance. Indian artifacts have been found in the area. Integrity: There are some jeep trails in the area as well as mining prospects. Use: Research, educational, light recreational. The soil is unstable and is subject to damage from off-road vehicles. April 1975
