St. John's Mountain

>Map     >Satellite

St. John's Mountain is immediately adjacent to the Snow Mountain area and is similar in numerous aspects. The vegetation is primarily a Jeffrey pine, Pinus jeffreyi, woodland, with some red fir, Abies magnifica, which here is near the southern limits of its Coast Range distribution. There is a disjunct colony of mountain mahogany, Cercocarpus ledifolius, plus other Great Basin plants.

Here volcanic rocks of the Franciscan assemblage are over 2,130 meters (7,000 feet) thick, their thickest accumulation in the entire Coast Range, indicating extensive volcanic activity during the Mesozoic age.

Integrity: A jeep trail leads to the summit.

Use: Research, educational, observational, light recreation.
