Abalone Beach

>Map     >Satellite

Immediately to the south of Patrick Point State Park, this strip of coast offers a variety of relatively undisturbed intertidal and subtidal habitats, including exposed rocky headlands, sand and pebble beaches.

Among the more common species present are the urchins Strongylocentrotus purpuratus and Strongylocentrotus franciscanus as well as abalone, Haliotis spp.

Harbor seals, Phoca vitulina, and the Steller sea lion, Eumetopias jubata, frequent the area.

Integrity: The virtual inaccessibility of the area has made it one of the least disturbed in Northern California. Much of the area is to sea.

Use: Private access. Educational only.
