Eureka Slough

>Map     >Satellite

Eureka Slough is a tidal slough extending inland from Arcata Bay approximately 3 kilometers (2 miles). Most of the area is open water; however, there are some salt marshes bordering on and draining into it.

The dominant plants are pickleweed, Salicornia virginica, and salt grass, Distichlis spicata. The rare Cordylanthus maritimus ssp. maritimus, though not recorded from the area, occurs nearby.

In the upper reaches the slough becomes brackish, with seasonal freshwater creeks emptying into the feeder sloughs.

Integrity: A part of the slough is leveed; an airport and various structures abut or occur in portions of the marsh area.

Use: Research, educational, observational; portions private.
