Horse Linto Creek

>Map     >Satellite

Located in the Six Rivers National Forest, this area includes the entire upper watershed of Horse Linto Creek. Several plant communities are found within the area, the dominant being an old-growth conifer forest with almost pure stands of Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, and white fir, Abies concolor. Much of the remaining area is mixed evergreen, with the firs still dominant but with madrone, Arbutus menziesii, and other evergreens present. There are several small stands of the noble fir, Abies procera. Additionally, the forests are rich in herbaceous species typical of the Klamath region.

Animals are abundant in the area and include several fur-bearers such as the uncommon marten, Martes americana, and possibly the fisher, Martes pennanti.

Integrity: There are roads near but not in the area, and it remains virtually undisturbed.

Use: Research, educational, observational, present. A proposal has been made to have this area designated a Research Natural Area.
