Rockefeller Forest (and Bull Creek)

>Map     >Satellite

A part of the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, this grove and the area upstream are of particular import. The average height of the redwoods, Sequoia sempervirens, in the grove is around 91 meters (300 feet), and the tallest is 109 meters (358 feet) which is generally considered the tallest living tree.

These redwoods are the outstanding example of the species growing on an alluvial flat. The flat was formed by Bull Creek.

Integrity: Bull Creek floods periodically, destroying much of the undergrowth, and undercuts its banks, thus jeopardizing the adjacent trees.

Use: Research, educational, observational, present.
