>Map >Satellite Sawmill Gulch is a steep-sided ravine opening on the Klamath River. The dominant vegetation in the area is a mixed evergreen forest with Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, and tan-oak, Lithocarpus densiflora. The rare plant Iris tenax ssp. klamathensis may occur in the area. It is also the type locality for the rare snail, Vespericola karokorum, whose habitat is on the edges of streambeds in narrow gorges and whose range is restricted to a few kilometers along this stretch of the Klamath River. Integrity: There is a road near the river; otherwise the area is virtually undisturbed. Use: Research, educational, observational. Ref: Talmadge, W., 1962.
