White Rock

>Map     >Satellite

This small island, some 300 meters (1,000 feet) offshore, is the breeding ground for at least four species of sea birds. More than 600 breeding pairs of common murre, Uria aalge, utilize the island. Other nesting species include Western gull, Larus occidentalis, pelagic cormorant, Phalacrocorax pelagicus, and double-crested cormorants, Phalacrocorax auritus.

A sparse north coastal scrub is the prime vegetative cover.

Integrity: Relatively undisturbed; the rock is currently under consideration as a part of a proposed Federal wildlife refuge.

Use: Research, educational, observational.
