Beals Well

This is the type locality of the rare snail, Micrarionta rowelli chocolata, which is found only in this vicinity.

The well supports a variety of desert animals including the bighorn sheep, Ovis canadensis, which is frequently sighted here.

Vegetation is creosote bush scrub and includes, in addition to the Larrea tridentata, burro-weed, Ambrosia dumosa, and several species of indigo bush, Psorothamnus spp.

Integrity:  A road and powerline pass through the area near the well.

Use:  As this is a part of the naval gunnery range and is used for bombing practice, access for research or educational use is quite restricted. For information contact United States Navy, Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, Arizona.
