Back Canyon Piute Cypress Grove

Map     Satellite

This is the southernmost of the nine currently known groves of the Piute cypress, Cupressus nevadensis. (See Bodfish Piute Cypress Grove Botanical Area And Vicinity). There are no more than a few hundred trees here, mostly senescent. The site is the most arid of the nine.

The soil is composed of decomposed granite and black clay.

Integrity: Good, but probably the reason that this grove still survives is the generally scant vegetation in the area which is incapable of carrying a devastating fire.

Use: Private
