Map Satellite The low sand hills and creek bed preserve a flora and fauna that was once common in the lower San Joaquin Valley but which now has virtually disappeared due to agricultural development. Among the rich assemblage of annuals and perennials, which flower in impressive numbers in years of adequate rainfall, are Gilia tricolor, Allium howellii, Astragalus lentiginosus var. nigricalycis, Linanthus liniflorus ssp. phamaceoides, Lupinus nanus var. menkerae, and Lepidium dictyotum. The rare Opuntia basilaris var. treleasei and Eriogonum gossypinum occur here. The endangered San Joaquin kit fox, Vulpes macrotis mutica, is found in the area, as is the uncommon spadefoot toad, Scaphiopus hammondi. Integrity: A portion of the area is managed as a nature reserve. Use: Research, educational. July 1976
