Lynns Valley

Map     Satellite

This gentle, scenic valley supports one of the more park-like oak woodlands in the southern Sierra. There is an excellent open forest of valley oak, Quercus lobata, intermixed with blue oak, Quercus douglasii. Gray pines, Pinus sabiniana, and California buckeye, Aesculus californica, are also present. The woodland merges into an open grassland in portions of the valley, where the dominant native grass is a Stipa sp .

Several vernal pools occur in the area and support populations of Zigadenus venenosus, Lilaea scilloides, Downingia pulchella, Downingia cuspidata and Pogogyne douglasii, among others.

Two rare plants, Mimulus pictus and Sidalcea keckii, occur in the valley, while the rare Navarretia setiloba occurs nearby and possibly will be found in the valley .

Numerous animals inhabit the area.

Poso Creek flows through the valley and has formed wide stream terraces in the gently rolling hills.

Integrity: There are buildings, roads, fences and a cemetery in the valley and it has been, in general, lightly grazed.
