Map Satellite Surrounded by farmlands, this preserve supports two formerly common communities, the valley grassland and the alkaline playa association. The former includes good stands of the native grasses Vulpia myuros var. hirsuta and Vulpia microstachys var. pauciflora as well as various exotics such as Avena barbata and Bromus madritensis ssp. rubens. Other species include Lasthenia fremontii and Delphinium recurvatum. Conspicuous plants of the alkaline area are iodine bush, Allenrolfea occidentalis, and Suaeda moquinii. This area serves as a refuge for numerous animals. Of note is the endangered blunt-nosed leopard lizard, Crotaphytus wislizenii silus. Integrity: The area is protected.
