Map Satellite Santiago Creek, in this stretch, flows through a rugged and colorful badlands. The rocks are non-marine sedimentaries and include both Oligocene and Plio-Pleistocene formations. Dominant vegetation is chaparral, with chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, and Yucca whipplei. There is some pinyon–oak woodland in places, with Pinus monophylla and several oak, Quercus, species. A sparse riparian community grows along the intermittent creek. The endangered California condor, Gymnogyps californianus, is frequently sighted in the area.
