Map Satellite This pleasant southern Sierran meadow is bordered by incense cedar, Calocedrus decurrens. It is the only known locality of the Weston mariposa lily, Calochortus westonii. This lily blooms in May. Other plants found here include snake lily, Dichelostemma volubile, shooting star, Dodecatheon clevelandii, pine mat, Ceanothus diversifolius, Carex amplifolia, Clarkia exilis, and Lupinus arbustus. Integrity: Shirley Meadows is in the Sequoia National Forest and has been developed as a winter sports area. The high intensity use for tobogganing and skiing has severely reduced the populations noted above. The ski run cuts directly through the Calochortus colony; however, a certain number of the lilies still exist in and along the borders of the ski run. No further development is anticipated. Use: Observation; recreational use if not expanded. January 1975
