Map Satellite Embracing much of the upper watershed of Cache Creek, this area supports a fine example of a pinyon–juniper woodland. Among the more conspicuous species are the pinyon, Pinus monophylla, California juniper, Juniperus californica, Yucca schidigera, basin sagebrush, Artemisia tridentata, antelope bush, Purshia tridentata, and rabbit brush, Chrysothamnus paniculatus. Along the creek there is a sparse riparian association with willows, Salix spp., present. Animal life is typical; badgers, Taxidea taxus, and bobcats, Lynx rufus, are not infrequently sighted in the area. Miocene nonmarine sedimentaries, overlain by Miocene volcanics, are exposed in the canyon. There are caves in the area with vandalized pictographs. Integrity: Portions are grazed and there has been some agate mining in the area. A low-quality dirt road traverses the canyon. Much of the area is in excellent condition. Use: Private October 1977
