Tule Elk State Reserve

Map     Satellite

On this low-quality remnant of the once extensive valley grasslands is the only herd of the Tule elk, Cervus nannodes, that still exists in its native habitat. (The Cache Creek herd may have interbred with Cervus canadensis.) Approximately sixty animals are kept in this reserve, which is fenced.

The vegetation does not support the herd.

Integrity: The area is fenced and over-grazed. Use: Research, educational, observational.
