Map Satellite At the southeastern end of Clear Lake there is an extensive shallow, marshy area. Portions of the marsh are open water but there are large concentrations of Juncus spp., as well as Carex spp., Scirpus spp., and other Cyperaceae. Approximately 100 species of birds have been sighted in the marsh and at least 57 of them, including several waterfowl, are known to nest here. The marsh is also an important spawning and nursery area for the fish of the lake. Cache Creek, which drains the lake, flows from the eastern side of the marsh. Integrity: Grazing occurs on the borders and development is threatening the area. Use: Private Ref: Hopkirk, John D. 1973. Endemism in Fishes of the Clear Lake Region of Central California.
