Clear Lake State Park

Map     Satellite

Though the area is managed as a park, there are portions that preserve the original vegetation. Several communities are represented, including a freshwater marsh, oak woodland, and grasslands.

The freshwater marsh vegetation is typical, with cattails, Typha spp., and bulrush, Scirpus spp., as the dominants. In the oak woodland the blue and valley oaks, Quercus douglasii and Quercus lobata, form the main overstory. Cottonwoods, Populus fremontii, willow, Salix sp., and box elder, Acer negundo, are found along the stream courses, several of which are channelized. The grasslands are composed primarily of exotics.

A number of waterfowl frequent the area, particularly the marsh. The wood duck, Aix sponsa, nests here, as does the yellow-headed blackbird, Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus.

(See Clear Lake).

Integrity: The area is a park and equipped with boat launching, camping and trailer facilities, etc.
