Map Satellite Embracing portions of Alder and Sulphur Creeks near their confluences with Kelsey Creek, this area is botanically unique. Three communities are found in close proximity. There is a dense colony of bunch grasses, with Deschampsia cespitosa dominant. On the sloping canyon walls there is serpentine chaparral, with Arctostaphylos sp., Ceanothus sp., and leather oak, Quercus durata. There are also some ponderosa and digger pines, Pinus ponderosa and Pinus sabiniana. Along the canyon bottom there is a marshy bog bordered by meadows. Among the plants found here are Epipactis gigantea, Spiranthes porrifolia, Brodiaea elegans, Triteleia hyacinthina, Triteleia peduncularis, Calochortus amabilis, Calochortus uniflorus, Calochortus vestae, and Senecio clevelandii. The rare plants Carex albida and Hesperolinon adenophyllum occur here. Integrity: There are roads and buildings in the area. Use: Private September 1975
