Ash Valley Sagebrush Scrub Area

Map     Satellite

Most of the area is typical of the Great Basin juniper-sagebrush scrub community, though a small portion is on the ecotone between this and ponderosa pine, Pinus ponderosa, forest. The dominant species are Western juniper, Juniperus occidentalis, basin sagebrush, Artemisia tridentata, mountain mahogany, Cercocarpus ledifolius, and chokecherry, Prunus virginiana var. demissa.

A variety of animals is present; among the more noteworthy are the pronghorn, Antilocapra americana, and the sage grouse, Centrocercus urophasianus.

There are extensive Miocene volcanic pyroclastic rock outcrops which give way in the lower portion to a damp area with springs.

Integrity: The area is grazed and there is a reservoir.

Use: Private
