Map Satellite Lying several kilometers to the east of Eagle Lake on the slopes of Fredonyer Peak is this forest of mountain mahogany, Cercocarpus ledifolius. This forest is quite dense and contains some of the largest Cercocarpus "trees" in the State, with some specimens approximately 12 meters (40 feet) tall. The understory is composed of grasses or, in the more open areas, sagebrush scrub with Artemisia sp. and Purshia tridentata present. Deer, Odocoileus hemionus, and pronghorn, Antilocapra americana, browse here. The soil is cinder-loam. Integrity: A dirt road bisects the area and it is also grazed by cattle. Use: Research, educational, observational, light recreation. September 1975
