Map Satellite The Gerhardy Sanctuary is the largest of the County's eight Antelope Valley reserves (see Alpine Butte Wildflower Sanctuary). Creosote bush scrub is the dominant community, covering approximately 75 percent of the area. The remainder is a Joshua tree woodland. There is a good display of spring wildflowers in season, with such species as evening primrose, Oenothera deltoides, sand verbena, Abronia villosa, Chaenactis fremontii, Cryptantha spp., and Eremalche exilis. Animal life is abundant. The substrate is Quaternary alluvium, with some dune sand. Integrity: A dirt road cuts through the area; however, the vegetation is relatively undisturbed. Use: Research, educational, present. December 1979
