This Reserve, partially surrounded by urban developments, supports a typical mixed-chaparral community with successional patches of coastal sage scrub.

Among the elements of the chaparral are chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, mountain mahogany, Cercocarpus betuloides, Arctostaphylos glandulosa, Ceanothus spinosus, Ceanothus megacarpus, and toyon, Heteromeles arbutifolia.  The scrub includes California sagebrush, Artemisia californica, buckwheat, Eriogonum fasciculatum, black sage, Salvia mellifera, and chia, Salvia columbariae.

There are some coast live oak, Quercus agrifolia, and California walnut, Juglans californica, present.

Animal life is relatively abundant and typical of the region. Some 117 species of birds have been observed in the area, with at least 28 species nesting.

Integrity: The Reserve was last burned in November 1961.
