Topanga Fauna Site

Map     Satellite

This area serves as the "type locality" for collections with which other middle Miocene fossils of the Los Angeles basin have been compared and correlated.  Several score of species of molluscs have been found in the friable sandstone beds here. Among them are Ostrea spp. and Tertella topanga.

Integrity: There is a road through the area and there are houses on the hillsides. The roadcuts have been extensively collected by amateurs and, unless protected, may not withstand the pressure.

Use:  Private
