Whites Point

Map     Satellite

Once supporting good stands of algae, including Egregia laevigata, Eisenia arborea, Gelidium cartilagineum and Calliarthron regenerans, as well as an abundant marine invertebrate fauna on the inshore rocks, the area is currently biologically impoverished due to the nearby sewer outfall.

The bottom is high-relief rocky out to depths of 10 meters (30 feet) and then a mosaic of rocks and sand to depths of 18 - 21 meters (60 - 70 feet),

The main current feature of interest is the underwater hot springs that are located off the Point.

Integrity:  Highly disturbed, but as sewage discharge quality is improved the area may recover its once outstanding biological character.

Use:  Research, educational, observational, light recreation.
