Map Satellite During the fall and winter months hundreds of thousands of monarch butterflies, Danaus plexippus, use these eucalyptus trees as a wintering ground. There are a number of "butterfly trees" along the coast (see also Pacific Grove) but this site is a major one in the Bay Area. Integrity: The eucalyptus grove was apparently planted in the early 1900's and is a mature stand. It fronts on one of the main streets of Bolinas and is in the midst of a residential area. Use: Private. August 1975
