Richardson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in the midst of an urban area with numerous marinas and yacht harbors, this Sanctuary provides a resting or feeding grounds for numerous Pacific flyway waterfowl during the migratory season, September to March. Over 55 species of water or shore birds have been recorded here. The numbers of birds present vary, reaching a high of up to 15,000 individuals. Ducks predominate and the pintail, Anas acuta, canvasback, Aythya valisineria, and ruddy duck, Oxyura jamaicensis, are among the most frequently observed.

Integrity: The Sanctuary was established in 1959. There are several buildings on the land portion of the Sanctuary.

Use: Observational, research, educational. A variety of educational activities is offered.
