Map Satellite On the Bear Valley Road opposite the Olema Marsh is one of the few places remaining in the Bay Area where surface traces of the 1906 earthquake can still be seen. Here the trace is immediately to the east of the road and is marked by slides, sunken areas and, in places, a fairly well-defined trench. At the headquarters of the Point Reyes National Seashore 300 meters plus (1,000 feet) south, markers were placed in 1907 to measure the future displacement along the fault. The road here runs atop the trace of the fault. At the headquarters, a path leading to a house no longer standing was displaced 5 meters (15 feet) by the right lateral movement. Integrity: The fenced area is a pasture, and natural erosion is causing the trace to disappear. Use: Private January 1976
