Map Satellite This island, the smaller of the two islands lying approximately 1 kilometer (0.6 mile) offshore in San Rafael Bay, is an important heronry. Over 600 birds have been reported nesting on the island. They include common egrets, Zasmerodius albus, snowy egrets, Leucophoyx thula, and black-crowned night herons, Nycticorax nycticorax. The island teems with nesting birds from mid-March to mid-July, with a few stragglers until September. Integrity: There is no development on the island. At various times in the past the island has been vandalized during the nesting season. Use: Private February 1975
