Anthony Peak

Map     Satellite

Anthony Peak, which is among the higher peaks in the central North Coast Range, is of particular botanical interest. Two communities, the red fir forest, Abies magnifica, and montane chaparral, are dominant. At least two species are disjuncts: Arabis repanda, usually found in the mid-Sierra, and Ericameria bloomeri, which is common in the Sierra and north. Mimulus jepsonii reaches the southern limit of its range here.

Two rare plants occur on the peak, Raillardiopsis scabrida and Viola hallii. Other plants of interest include Ericameria greenei, Collinsia greenei, Hieracium greenei, Penstemon purpusii, and Hackelia amethystina.

Integrity: There is a lookout tower on the peak and an access road and picnic area.

Use: Research, educational, observational.
