Map Satellite Though much of the area is developed for recreational use, portions preserve features of the original riparian landscape. Along the Merced River frontage cottonwoods, Populus fremontii, and willows, Salix sp., are common, giving way inland to the valley oak, Quercus lobata. Under the oaks is a grassland, primarily exotics. A variety of birds is found here, typical of the Central Valley. The rare giant garter snake, Thamnophis couchi gigas, may still be found in this area. Integrity: Disturbed, as it is managed as a recreation area and receives heavy usage. Use: Present April 1976
