Map Satellite Vegetation is primarily sagebrush scrub, with Artemisia tridentata the dominant. There are occasional clumps of Western juniper, Juniperus occidentalis, and some mixed conifer forest with ponderosa pine, Pinus ponderosa, and white fir, Abies concolor. Mountain mahogany, Cercocarpus ledifolius, and Ceanothus spp. are prominent here. American dogwood, Cornus sericea ssp. sericea, elderberry, Sambucus caerulea, and quaking aspen, Populus tremuloides, occur in the moist, areas. The rare, in California, Cordylanthus capitatus, is found nearby. Most of the area is composed of Tertiary volcanics but in the lower elevations there are some Oligocene nonmarine sedimentaries of the Lower Cedarville formation. Fossil tree remains occur here. Integrity: There is a dirt road as well as a public campground in the area, but the vegetation is generally undisturbed. Use: Research, educational, observational, present. Some private.
