Map Satellite This area lies on the lower western slopes of the Sweetwater Mountains. The vegetation is predominantly a sagebrush scrub, with basin sagebrush, Artemisia tridentata, and antelope bush, Purshia tridentata, the dominants. There are scattered pinyon pine, Pinus monophylla, and Western juniper, Juniperus occidentalis. Animals are typical of the sagebrush scrub community. The area is of importance as there is a large influx of mule deer, Odocoileus hemionus, during the winter months. These animals apparently summer on the eastern Sierran slopes between the Sonora and Monitor Passes. Integrity: There are jeep trails and several mines in the area. It is grazed.
